This shoot reminded me of the good old days with TMAX 1600 and push processing. Why? because it was a very
good challenging lighting. Back lighting with very little fill and forward lighting makes for some good old school
technical shooting.

I shot most of this session with my Nikon D300 and D700 at an ISO of 6400, with shutter speeds
anywhere from 1/20 to 1/200.

I used my D300 for my longer shots and the D700 had my telephoto.

It was a fantastic show with Nashville P@ssy and the Texas king of rock-a-billy, Reverend Horton Heat as
the openers. The lighting was much better for Horton's session, but Lemmy seems to like his concerts
cave like.

Honestly, I am not all that thrilled with the shots. Many of them are soft focus due to the intentional
shutter drag, but I was desperate to get some good fill lighting on Lemmy's face.

Shooting this show really reminded me how spoiled I am become with excellent lighting from the
bigger shows, which have amazing spots lights and theater lighting.

It was a fantastic night of shooting and thanks to a great comp'd ticket I was able to hang out and
enjoy the entire show.

My favorite shot from this series is the 2nd image. I spent much of the night on the back right side of the
stage with Costello and the Sugarcanes. The warm lighting, faces of the crowd, and Costello surrounded by the
Sugarcanes gives an intimate perspective of night's performance.

I chose to shoot much this set in RAW Black and White. There is something about the mood of the evening and
Costello's music that just seemed to scream black and white imagery.

"It's Better To Burn Out, Than Fade Away"

From Janet:
Almost 20,000 fans showed up to give Cheap Trick, Poison, and Def Leppard deafening amounts of verbal love.

Cheap Trick was the first band up and played for only half a hour... but what an incredible half hour it was.

The Set List:
Way of the World
I Want You to Want Me
These Days
She's Tight
Tonight It's You
Sick Man of Europe
Dream Police
The Flame ( 20,ooo singing this song together = goosebumps)
Surrender
Good Night

Then Poison took stage and C. C. DeVille camped out right in front of me half the show.
Now granted, Bret Michaels, the guy knows how to work a crowd. Ricki Rockett had a hell of a custom drum kit
which looked very cool.

The Setlist
Look What The Cat Dragged In
Ride The Wind
Your Mama Don't Dance (Loggins & Messina cover)
Fallen Angel
Something To Believe In
Unskinny Bop
Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Talk Dirty To Me
Encore:
Nothin' But A Good Time

By the time Def Leppard took the stage the audience was completely wired and ready.
I shot Def Leppard for the first three songs, from inside the barricade and Animal was so
freaking good I just wanted to put my camera down and sing with everyone else.

They guys were actually pretty hard to shoot because they didn't sad still for a single minute!!!
Joe Elliott swarmed the stage from first note played and worked every nook and cranny. And Phil Collen,
just wow. I loved his guitar cam mounted on the neck so during a solo they would throw up what his
fingers were doing on the monitors.

Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)
Rocket
Animal
C'mon C'mon
Foolin'
Love Bites
Rock On (David Essex cover)
Two Steps Behind
Bringin' On The Heartbreak
Switch 625
Hysteria
Armageddon It
Photograph
Pour Some Sugar On Me
Rock Of Ages (This was THE song of the night.. perfect performance with EVERYONE singing and on their feet)
Encore:
Let's Get Rocked

After shooting I went to my comp'd seat in the media section which was pretty great since I shot at my
home arena and all the media geeks and photog's always get put in the same place.. so we all rocked
out for the rest of the show. I would have to say this is probably in my top three concerts of all time..
Metallica being number one, of course

More than worth the price of a ticket guys so if it is going to be close to your area and you want to relive
awesome 80's music for a night... GO!

Cheap Trick almost stole the show with Surrender.

As always, enjoy the pics.

( and forgive any typo's.. still waking up from the first real sleep I had had from a week on the road )
